"Upset? I'm not upset. You have no idea how much pain I'm in. It's like being cut open every day, bleeding onto the stones. I can't understand how any of you failed to see the blood..."

Ashfur is a thick-furred,[1] pale gray tom with darker flecks, dark blue eyes[2] and a torn ear.[3]

Ashkit was born in ThunderClan to Brindleface. He had one sister, Fernpaw. There were two other kits, but they shortly died after birth.

Ashpaw's mentor was Dustpelt, while Fernpaw went to Darkstripe, in hopes he would be distracted. Ashpaw's mentor, Dustpelt, had developed feelings for his sister, Fernpaw.

However, Dustpelt trained Ashpaw well. His mother was killed by Tigerstar. Ashpaw and Fernpaw begged to be in Firestar's plan to lead the pack of dogs away from the camp. He allowed the two to run together.

Ashfur and Ferncloud became warriors. He received Birchpaw as his first apprentice. Brambleclaw was surprised that Firestar chose Ashfur, because he wanted to get an apprentice. He soon fell in love with Squirrelflight, but she wasn't interested.

Ashfur then hated Squirrelflight after she said she was in love with Brambleclaw instead. When he was still mentoring Birchpaw, he came allies with Hawkfrost, a RiverClan warrior. Hawkfrost told Ashfur to get his apprentice to trick Firestar into coming to a fox-trap.

He later got Lionpaw as his second apprentice. He was very harsh with Lionpaw, because his mother supposedly was Squirrelflight. When a fire started in ThunderClan, he trapped Hollyleaf, Squirrelflight, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather in it.

He told Squirrelflight that he was going to let her kits die for revenge of hurting him inside. Squirrelflight then reveals that they are not her kits, but Leafpool and Crowfeather's. Ashfur lets them go, planning to tell all the Clans Squirrelflight's secret at the gathering. Hollyleaf killed Ashfur to prevent him from telling the secret.

  • Kate thinks that Ashfur forgave Hollyleaf for killing him once she joined StarClan.[4] This is contradicted by Vicky, who says they probably never forgave each other and avoid each other in StarClan.[5]
  • When asked about Ashfur's residence on her Facebook page, Vicky said the following: "[He] went to StarClan because he was essentially a loyal and well-meaning warrior. He was just driven a bit crazy from unrequited love!", and also replied that she'd been thinking for a long while about where to send him, and considered the Dark Forest.[6] She later said she is starting to think that Ashfur does not deserve StarClan, but now that he's in there, she cannot take him out.[7]
  • Vicky believes that Ashfur won't turn up in the future.[8]
  • Vicky believes that Ashfur wasn't chosen as the cat who loved Squirrelflight for any specific reason.[9]
